A few weeks ago a silver bar – weighing over 100 lbs and likely from Spain’s colonial mines in Bolivia – was found off the coast of Madagascar. The notorious Captain Kidd was appointed by the British Crown to capture enemy French ships in the second late 1600’s but soon turned to piracy himself. Executed in 1701, the legend of his hidden loot prompted countless treasure hunts and served as the inspiration of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.
Of course none of us up on the 4th floor are advocating for piracy, we hope the long lost treasure offers a reminder of the importance of historical knowledge!
Good luck with finals and hope all your hard work leads to your own treasure.
